Get your Import Export Code(IEC) Registration

Anyone who wants to start an import/export company in the country will need the IEC (Import Export Code). It is issued by DGFT (Director General for Foreign Trade). IEC is a 10-digit code with lifetime validity. Generally, importers merchants can’t import goods without the Import Export Code. In the same way, exporter merchants cannot benefit from DGFT for export schemes, etc. IEC is not required.

Where IEC registration is required?

  • The customs authorities require an importer to clear his shipments at customs.
  • Banks require money that an importer sends abroad via banks.
  • The customs port will require an exporter to send his shipment.
  • The bank will require the exporter to deposit foreign currency money directly into his account.

What documents are required for IEC registration?

  • Photograph of the IEC applicant
  • PAN of the business entity
  • PAN of the IEC applicant
  • Digital Signature
  • Certificate of Incorporation & Address proof(in case of company)
  • Cancelled cheque of the business entity
  • Address proof of directors

Is IEC Registration Mandatory?

Yes ! An IEC is required for any person or entity who wishes to export or import, unless exempted. Except when the service provider is receiving benefits under the Foreign Trade Policy, IEC is not required for services exports.

Do i need to update/renew my IEC registration?

Yes ! It is compulsory to update the IEC profile each year. If the IEC profile is not updated, it will be removed. After successful updation, an IEC that has been deactivated can be reactivated. Reactivation can be granted provided that no other actions are taken in violation of the “Foreign Trade Policy”.
